Lucas Pouille is a far more accomplished player on grass than any other surface. He had to come through the qualifiers to reach round 1 of Wimbledon though, something he achieved with relative ease.

Pouille won the first two rounds in straight sets, dropping just three games in his opening match. In the final qualifier, sixth seed, Luca Van Assche took Pouille to a deciding set, but Pouille came through unscathed.

It was the Frenchman’s serve that got him out of trouble on a number of occasions and is a weapon he will rely on once again.

Laslo Djere has not had the finest of seasons to date, failing to reach the latter rounds of any of the bigger ATP events or Grand Slams.

Since losing in the first round of the French Open, Djere has been visiting the Challenger circuit. He did reach the semi-final and quarter-final of two events prior to Eastbourne.

However, at Eastbourne, the Serb was sent packing in the first round by the unfancied Max Purcell. While the game went to three sets, Djere winning the second 6-4, he couldn’t carry that momentum into the third set.
