A week ago, Sekhukhune United fired coach Lehlohonolo Seema despite the club sitting in fourth place in the PSL table. Eric Tinkler has been named as their new coach.

Reports suggest that the coach had been talking to Richards Bay and Babino Noko’s owners were not happy with that development.

Sekhukhune have struggled in terms of performance levels of late, losing their last two league matches under Seema. They were outshot 16-5 by their struggling opponents in that defeat.

Highly Qualified Eric Tinkler Takes Charge

Sekhukhune moved to appoint Eric Tinkler as their new coach after his exit earlier this season from Cape Town City. The 54-year-old has coached Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Chippa United and Maritzburg United in the past

Tinkler has won two trophies in his career and finished in second place with Cape Town City in the 2021-22 season.

The former Bafana Bafana international holds both the UEFA A License and CAF A License Coaching badges.

Sekhukhune Technical Team Announced

Babina Noko have announced former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City defender Marc Van Heerden as Tinkler’s assistant. He recently completed his UEFA B License in Scotland.

Paulus Masehe will stay onboard as another assistant coach whilst Kaitano Tembo is set to be redeployed to the development ranks.

The club said the following in a statement:

“Eric can best be described as a forward-thinking leader, who is ready to take on an ambitious team like Babina Noko to new heights.

“Head Coach Eric Tinkler will be assisted by Paulus Masehe, Marc Van Heerden, and Nascent Nkhwashu as goalkeeper coach in a new-look technical team.”

Speaking on Tinkler’s appointment, club Chairman Mr. Simon Malatji said: “We are honoured to have an experienced mentor like Tinkler in charge of our project.”
