2019-20 Season

The top scorer award was shared by Gabadingo Mhango and Peter Shalulile, with 16 goals each. The Mozambican forward Mhango excelled for Orlando Pirates whilst Namibian forward Shalulile was on fire for Highlands Park.

The latter was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns after his exploits in this campaign and is still playing for the Brazilians in the 2024-25 season.

Mhango struggled in subsequent seasons and left Pirates two years later to join AmaZulu and later Moroka Swallows. He is currently leading the line for Marumo Gallants for the 2024-25 season.

2020-21 Season

SuperSport United’s poacher Bradley Grobler scored 16 goals to take the Golden Boot. He finished one goal ahead of the previous joint-winner in Peter Shalulile.

Grobler had netted 14 goals a year earlier but has suffered injury problems in the seasons since. He is currently ruled out for several months after groin surgery and won’t play again until 2025.

2021-22 Season

The Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile had an incredible season to score 23 PSL goals. He was very close to breaking the record held by Zambian target man Collins Mbesuma but he end up falling just short.

This season saw Shalulile score successive hattricks and become the first player to do so in the PSL. Overall, he scored 30 goals in all competitions.

2022-23 Season

The Golden Boot was shared this season between Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo and the usual suspect, Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns.

A paltry 12 goals was enough to take the top goalscorer award. Shalulile had some injury problems and only started 19 PSL matches, scoring 10 goals from open play and two penalties.

2023-24 Season

Last season, we saw an uptick in goalscoring with five different players hitting double figures. In the end, Tshegofatso Mabasa took the Golden Boot award after scoring six goals on loan at Moroka Swallows and 10 goals for his parent club, Orlando Pirates.

Iqraam Rayners finished in second spot with 15 league goals, including scoring five in one game. His scoring exploits led to a big-money move to Sundowns before the 2024-25 season.

Shalulile netted a disappointing nine league goals with five of those coming in the last six PSL matches of the season.
