After Chiefs returned from a preseason camp in Turkiye, Nabi said: “I would like to thank the owner of the club, Mr Kaizer Motaung, Jessica, Khemiso, Mr Bobby and Kaizer Jr for their warm welcome.

“I’d also like to thank all Kaizer Chiefs fans for their warm welcome at the airport and I’ll do my best to reward them for the warm welcome with a great season this year.”

The Tunisian coach later spoke about the importance of the camp in Turkiye. He said:

“It was very successful, it was also very important to get away from Johannesburg, from the pressure, especially after the way the season ended.

“It was also important for the new staff to meet the players and adjust together. It was very successful.

“We played a few games against several teams in Turkiye. The games weren’t to ease expectations or how he wanted it to be, however the pace will pick up.”

The Sporting Director Talks Transfers

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr. was also part of the press conference on Friday. He spoke on several issues, including whether the signings would continue after adding Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley and Fiacre Ntwari so far.

He eventually divulged that more deals are in the pipeline, with Asanele Velebayi a rumoured target from Cape Town Spurs.

“Yes, there definitely will be [more signings], we’re working tirelessly and meticulously behind the scenes to make sure we bring the right players, who will help us achieve our objectives.”

Itumeleng Khune’s Future to be clarified

Chiefs’ Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. went on to address questions over the future of legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

“We assessed everything and we see him playing a very valuable role within this institution.

“I mean, he has contributed tremendously and is a living legend. I think has a lot to offer, whether it’s academy players, senior players in various roles.

“But yeah, I mean, a person that has achieved and been at one club like he has, I think he’s within the fabric of the cloth and everything.

“I think we are privileged to have someone like him around this team, especially at this important time. And I think as time goes on, like I said, we’ll be able to reveal the next steps.”
