Mamelodi Sundowns vs Maritzburg United Predictions
On paper, there is only one winner here. Sundowns are great at home in the league and Maritzburg are poor travellers who rarely score goals. I am backing a home win to nil despite the hosts being expected to rest most of their starting XI.

- Mamelodi Sundowns have kept 10 clean sheets in their last 13 home matches (PSL).
- Maritzburg United have lost 5 of their last 6 away matches.
- Maritzburg United have scored Under 1.5 goals in 13 of their last 14 away matches (9 blanks).
Head to Head
Mamelodi Sundowns hold a 22-7 advantage over Maritzburg United across 37 previous meetings with eight draws.
Sundowns won 5-0 in the reverse fixture in October.
Mamelodi Sundowns Form & Team News
Sundowns have lost just once in their last 31 matches in all competitions. In the PSL, they haven’t lost since September but they’ve drawn four of their last six.
After beating Belouizdad 6-2 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League, a 2-2 draw at AmaZulu followed as a 2-0 lead was given up. Sundowns then went to relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants and won 2-0.
Over the weekend, they drew 0-0 away to Wydad Casablanca having played the second half with ten men. This fixture sandwiches two legs vs Wydad in the CAF Champions League semis.
Coach Rhulani Mokwena is certain to rest most of his XI having just returned from Morocco. Grant Kekana and Mosa Lebusa could start at the back.
Cassius Mailula is set to play up front. Neo Maema will start after his red card on Saturday.
Mamelodi Sundowns Predicted Lineup
Williams; Kekana, De Reuck, Lebusa, Mashego; Allende, Zungu, Mkhulise; Maema; Mailula, Sirino.
Maritzburg United Form & Team News
Maritzburg kept their slim survival hopes alive by winning on Saturday. They still bottom of the PSL and need a draw to have a chance of going into the relegation play-offs.
A late goal rescued a 1-1 home draw against Richards Bay. Maritzburg then lost 1-0 at Swallows and conceded in 92nd minute to draw 2-2 at home with Marumo Gallants.
In their last match, they eked out three points in a 1-0 home victory over Stellenbosch FC. That ended a bad run with just six points (one win, three draws, seven losses) from 11 fixtures.
Coach Fadlu Davids was without goalkeeper King Ndlovu in the last match. Renaldo Leaner could play in goal once again.
It could be an unchanged XI in this one. Wayde Jooste coming into the XI is one possible change though.
Maritzburg United Predicted Lineup
Leaner; Makume, De Goede, Cross; Theron, Graham, Human, Palace, Jooste; Soukouna, Karim.
Verdict
Despite having a CAF Champions League semi-final ahead, I am backing Sundowns to win at home with a clean sheet. Not many goals are expected.
