Sundowns suffered a shock domestic cup defeat last time out. They reached this stage of the CAF Champions League by beating ES Tunis 1-0 on aggregate.

A damaging 2-1 loss to title rivals Orlando Pirates was followed by a 1-0 win vs Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals. Sundowns beat ES Tunis 1-0 in their CAF quarter-final first leg.

Coach Miguel Cardoso is still without three players due to injuries. Themba Zwane and Rivaldo Coetzee have been out long-term and right back Thapelo Morena has a hamstring complaint.
