They were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Petro de Luanda after a 2-1 away loss and 1-1 home draw. They have since beaten Royal AM 2-1 away in the Nedbank Cup semi-final and drawn 1-1 at Kaizer Chiefs.

Downs have had a flu outbreak and some players remain doubtful. Andile Jali is ill in midfield and Rivaldo Coetzee is still out injured.

Marumo finished 10th in the PSL table. They reached this final after winning 1-0 at first division side TTM in the semi-final.
