Spain vs Germany Predictions

Spain have looked the form side of the tournament thus far and cruised through the last 16. Germany have also been very good at Euro 2024 and with home advantage, will be tough to beat. Extra time is the best bet here.

Head to Head

In 26 previous encounters in is neck-and-neck between these two. Germany have won nine, Spain eight along with nine draws.

Spain Form

Spain played two friendlies in June, facing ordinary opponents and taking advantage by thrashing Andorra 5-0 and Northern Ireland 5-1.

Luis de la Fuente’s side were the only team to win all three group games at Euro 2024 and they did it without conceding as goal. They beat Croatia 3-0 with Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal scoring in the first half.

La Roja dominated Italy, winning 1-0 despite having 9-1 shots on target. Fuente rested his stars against Albania, Ferran Torres’ early strike securing a 1-0 victory.

Spain fell behind early against Georgia in the Round of 16. They came home strong and ended with 35-4 shots, Rodri equalising before the break alongside second half goals to Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

Alvaro Morata has scored 36 goals in 77 appearances, Ferran Torres with 20 goals in 44 internationals.

Germany Form

Germany played two friendlies in March, impressing after beating France 2-0 and Netherlands 2-1. Two friendlies in June were not as impressive, a 0-0 draw against Ukraine followed by a 2-1 win against Greece.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side started Euro 2024 by thumping Scotland 5-1, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala scoring early goals before Havertz, Niclas Füllkrug and Emre Can scored against 10 men.

Die Mannschaft were too good for Hungary, winning 2-0 with Musiala and Ilkay Gündogan on target. They fell behind against Switzerland, Füllkrug coming off the bench to score in added time to secure a 1-1 draw and top spot in Group A.

Germany had 9-2 shots on target in a 2-0 win against Denmark in the Round of 16. Havertz opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Musiala making sure of it in the 68th minute.

Germany Squad & News

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Oliver Baumann, Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Defenders: Antonio Rüdiger, David Raum, Jonathan Tah, Joshua Kimmich, Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Benjamin Henrichs, Robin Koch
Midfielders: Pascal Gross, Toni Kroos, Jamal Musiala, Chris Führich, Florian Wirtz, Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gündogan, Robert Andrich, Emre Can
Forwards: Kai Havertz, Niclas Füllkrug, Thomas Müller, Maximilian Beier, Deniz Undav

Alexander Nübel, Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle and Robin Gosens miss out with Leon Goretzka, Julian Brandt, Jonas Hofmann and Serge Gnabry overlooked. Timo Werner has a hamstring injury.

Aleksandar Pavlovic was called up but missed out on the final squad.

Midfielder Toni Kroos came out of retirement in March. Thomas Müller has scored 45 goals in 130 internationals but is mainly used as a bench option at this stage of his career.

Niclas Füllkrug has scored 13 goals in 20 internationals.

Jonathan Tah is available after suspension and competes with Nico Schlotterbeck for a spot in central defence next to Antonio Rüdiger. Florian Wirtz should replace Leroy Sane in the starting side.

Verdict

Spain have won four straight matches at Euro 2024 and Germany are undefeated in eight games this year. I am expecting a close match in Stuttgart with a 1-1 draw the result after 90 minutes.
