The Falcons were successful in their last two test games ahead of Euro 2024, beating San Marino 4-0 and Wales 4-0. They started this year with a poor performance and a 2-0 home loss to Austria in late March, ending the match with 0.83-1.04 expected goals, 47% possession and 12-9 shots.

Ukraine were demolished in their Euro 2024 opening match on Monday by Romania 3-0 despite being tagged favorites and having high possession before conceding the first goal. Sergey Rebrov’s side had 0.55-1.32 expected goals, 66% possession and 14-10 shots.
They had to find their Euro 2024 ticket through the UEFA Nations League playoffs after ending 3rd in the qualifying Group C behind England and Italy.
The Blue and Yellow were in a difficult position in the playoff semifinals against Bosnia & Herzegovina after Mykola Matviienko scored an own goal in the second half. Roman Yaremchuk found the equalizer in 85th minute, while Artem Dovbyk scored the winner just a couple of minutes later.
Ukraine then proceeded to beat Iceland 2-1 in the playoff finals to secure a spot in Euro 2024. They were down by one goal in that clash as well, Viktor Tsygankov’s and Mikhaylo Mudryk’s goals then turning things around in the second half.
