England Form

England won six of their eight qualifiers with two draws to top Group C. They scored 22 goals with Harry Kane bagging six.

Gareth Southgate’s side were unconvincing in two friendlies in March, a 1-0 defeat to Brazil followed by a 2-2 draw against Belgium thanks to Jude Bellingham’s 95th minute equaliser.

The Three Lions built some confidence in June, beating Bosnia-Herzegovina in Newcastle. They saw it evaporate in a 1-0 defeat to Iceland at Wembley.

England started Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win against Serbia, Bellingham scoring in a game of few chances. Harry Kane opened the scoring in a deserved 1-1 draw against Denmark, the group coming to a close with a 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

Kobbie Mainoo could start in central midfield with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Gallagher failing to fire.

Phil Foden has returned to Germany after travelling to England for the birth of his third child.

Slovakia Form

Slovakia did the job in the qualifiers, winning seven of their ten matches with one draw to finish second in Group J. Both defeats came against table toppers Portugal.

The Falcons were poor in two friendlies in March, a 2-0 defeat to Austria followed by a 1-1 draw against Norway thanks to Ondrej Duda’s 87th minute equaliser. They gained confidence in June, defeating San Marino and Wales 4-0 featuring eight different goalscorers.

Francesco Calzona’s side started Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win against Belgium, doing well to hang on after a 7th minute strike to Ivan Schranz. Schranz opened the scoring against Ukraine but they failed to close it out, conceding two goals in the second half in a 2-1 defeat.

Slovakia took the lead for the third time thanks to Ondrej Duda in the 24th minute. They conceded a penalty in a 1-1 draw, but it was enough to reach the Round of 16.
