Head to Head

Newcastle and Brighton have met 16 times since 2017. Brighton have the H2H advantage with six wins. Newcastle were victorious on just three occasions.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle come into Sunday's FA Cup contest after a chastening 2-0 defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday. Without the services of in-form forward Alexander Isak, the Magpies produced a toothless display as the Premier League leaders eased to a straightforward win at Anfield.

An inconsistent spell has seen Eddie Howe's side win four and lose four of their last eight fixtures across all competitions. Defensively vulnerable, the Magpies leaked 18 goals in those eight matches.

Entertaining outcomes can usually be relied upon at St James's Park. An average of 4.1 goals per game were scored in Newcastle's ten previous home fixtures.

Newcastle Team News

Head coach Howe was unable to confirm if top scorer Isak would feature after missing the midweek defeat at Liverpool.

Joelinton and Sven Botman could return to the squad leaving Jamaal Lascelles as the only other injury absentee this weekend.

Brighton Form

Brighton maintained their excellent run of form with a 2-1 win against high-flying Bournemouth earlier this week. Danny Welbeck's seventh goal of the campaign secured a fourth successive win for the Seagulls.

Fabian Hürzeler's side have enjoyed a largely excellent run of results since the turn of the year. Brighton won seven and lost only two of ten games played in 2025. One of those defeats was a 7-0 thrashing at Nottingham Forest in February.

Dangerous on the counter-attack, Brighton scored at least two goals in seven of their last ten away fixtures. Hürzeler's side bagged 13 goals in their five most recent away matches.

Brighton Team News

Brighton boss Hürzeler has no new injury issues this week and is likely to keep faith in much of the same XI that edged past Bournemouth.

Lewis Dunk, Joel Veltman, Igor Julio, James Milner, Ferdi Kadioglu and Jason Steele remain sidelined this weekend.

Verdict

A high-scoring outcome has to be expected in Sunday's FA Cup contest.

I'm banking on over 2.5 goals, with Brighton tipped to score at least twice.
