The Moroccans beat Tanzania 2-0 away in their opening World Cup qualifier before seeing off Siera Leone 3-1 in a AFCON warmup game. Morocco then began their Africa Cup of Nations tournament with a commanding 3-0 win over Tanzania.

Romain Saiss gave Morocco the lead on the half hour mark before Tanzania had a man sent off in the 70th minute. Azzedine Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri added to the scoring thereafter.

Congo DR failed to win any of their three matches ahead of AFCON, losing to Sudan and Burkina Faso while they managed a draw against Angola.

A touch clash against Zambia awaited to kick off their AFCON campaign. Congo DR were superb, dominated the match from start to finish.

They kept Zambia to just three shots while they themselves had 25. But Zambia took the lead with their only shot on target in the 23rd minute. Yoane Wisse leveled matters four minutes later, but Congo DR could not break Zambia down thereafter.
