Congo DR vs Mozambique Preview
This should be a very even contest with Zambia as slight favourites. Congo DR are solid at the back, but they don’t offer much threat going forward. I fancy this game to end in a 1-1 draw.

- Congo DR have drawn 3 of their last 6 matches.
- Congo DR have scored 5 goals in their last 7 matches.
- Zambia drew their last match.
- Zambia have scored at least 1 goal in their last 4 matches.
Head to Head
These two met in a World Cup qualifier in November 2023. Congo DR won the game 2-0 away from home but Zambia did spend a decent portion of the game with 10 men.
Congo DR Form
Congo DR are not in good form as they have only one win in their last seven matches coming into AFCON.
In their World Cup qualifiers, Congo DR defeated Mauritania 2-0 at home but lost 1-0 the following week in Sudan. They played two friendlies prior to the Africa Cup of Nations, drawing 0-0 against Angola and losing 2-1 to Burkina Faso.
Their struggle for goals has been an issue for some time and they will be mindful of the need to sort it out soon. A positive start against Zambia could give them the confidence of progressing from the group.
Congo DR Injuries & Team News
Congo DR will be reliant on Cedric Bakambu up front for goals. He has 16 goals in 46 appearances for his country.
Zambia Form
Zambia have been quite inconsistent over the last 12 months. In July 2023 they won the COSAFA Cup in South Africa, beating Lesotho 1-0 in the final.
However, the COSAFA Cup is a tournament in which the bigger nations, including Zambia, play without their international players. In the World Cup qualifiers late last year, Zambia beat Congo 4-2 at home before losing 2-1 in Niger.
Their only warmup game for AFCON ended in an impressive 1-1 draw against Cameroon just over a week ago.
Zambia Injuries & Team News
Zambia’s squad is largely made up from players within the local league or other African leagues. However, they do have Patson Daka up front who features regularly for Leicester City in England.
Verdict
I am backing these sides to cancel each other out over 90 minutes.
