Burundi vs Namibia Predictions

The Brave Warriors just need a draw to qualify and they’re in excellent form. Burundi have a leaky defence at home and I can see them losing this one. I am backing BTTS Yes and a Namibia victory.

  • Burundi have lost 2 of their last 3 matches (AFCON Qualifiers).
  • Burundi have conceded in their last 6 home matches (AFCON Qualifiers).
  • Namibia have won 3 of their last 5 matches (2 draws)(AFCON Qualifiers).
  • Namibia have seen BTTS Yes in their last 4 matches (AFCON Qualifiers)

Head to Head

These sides sit a 1-1 across three previous matches with one match ending in a draw.

When they last met in June 2022, it ended in a 1-1 stalemate as Burundi scored in the 98th minute to rescue a draw in Johannesburg.

Burundi Form

Burundi sit third out of three teams in Group C of AFCON qualifying. They need to win this game to have any chance of qualification.

They began with a 1-1 draw in Namibia back in June 2022 before losing 1-0 at home to Cameroon. They have only played three friendlies in the last 11 months, starting with a 4-0 loss to Ivory Coast in November 2022.

Their last two matches saw a 3-1 friendly loss to Indonesia and then a 2-2 draw vs the same opponents. Both matches were played in March.

Burundi Injuries & Team News

Coach Etienne Ndayiragije has left out veteran midfielder Saidi Ntibazonkiza who has 13 goals for his country. Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana is back in the squad to partner captain Saido Berahino.

Gaël Bigirimana will be key in midfield with his experience in English football.

Goalkeepers: Onésime Rukundo, Fabien Mutombora, Justin Ndikumana, Aladin Bizimana
Defenders: Christophe Nduwarugira, Rashid Léon Harerimana, David Nshimirimana, Youssouf Ndayishimiye, Marco Weymans, Ismail Nshimirimana, Collins Muhindo Mashauri, Derrick Mukombozi
Midfielders: Shassiri Nahimana, Jospin Nshimirimana, Abedi Bigirimana, Aaron Musore, Trésor Mossi, Irakoze Donasiyano, Jordi Liongola, Emmanuel Mvuyekure, Jean-Claude Girumugisha
Forwards: Hussein Shabani, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Elvis Kamsoba, Bienvenue Kanakimana, Pacifique Niyongabire, Richard Kirongozi Bazombwa, Crispaldinho Chubaka, Saido Berahino

Namibia Form

Namibia will qualify for the 2023 AFCON with a draw in this match. They drew 1-1 with Burundi in their opening match after conceding in the 89th minute.

They played in the 2022 COSAFA Cup, beating Madagascar 2-0 and Mozambique 1-0. They lost 1-0 to Zambia in the final after extra time.

In March, they faced Cameroon twice in AFCON qualifiers. They drew 1-1 away and picked up a superb 2-1 home win to put them on the verge of qualifying.

Namibia Injuries & Team News

Coach Collin Benjamin has a settled side. Ryan Nyambe from Wigan is crucial in defence, as is AmaZulu’s Riaan Hanamub at left back.

The key man is certainly Peter Shalulile up front. The Mamelodi Sundowns man will carry his nation’s scoring hopes on his back once again.

Goalkeepers: Edward Maova Callies, Ndisiro Kamajanda, Jonas Mateus
Defenders: Ryan Nyambe, Ivan Kamberipa, Steven Damaseb, Kennedy Amutenya, Denzel Haoseb, Annanias Gebhardt, Riaan Hanamub, Approcius Petrus
Midfielders: Reverend Matroos, Devin Somseb, Ngero Kaanjuka, Dynamo Fredericks, Paulus Amutenya, Marcel Papama
Forwards: Abasolm Iimbondi, Peter Shalulile, Junior Petrus, Joslyn Kamatuka, Betheuel Museu, Elmo Kambindu, Edmar Kamatuka, Wendell Rudath

Verdict

I am backing both sides to score in this one. I see Namibia winning this match due to their better current form.
