Benin vs Nigeria Predictions
Nigeria are on the verge of qualification for the next AFCON. Benin are no pushovers but this “home” match is being played in Ivory Coast. I’m backing a Nigeria win to zero with Victor Osimhen fit again.

Head to Head
Nigeria hold a 7-2 lead over Benin across nine previous meetings.
The sides last met in September 2024 as Nigeria won 3-0 in an AFCON qualifier.
Benin Form
Benin are an improving nation and their four AFCON qualifiers have yielded six points (LWWL). They won two home World Cup qualifiers in June, beating Rwanda 1-0 and Nigeria 2-1.
AFCON qualifying started with a 3-0 loss away to Nigeria before beating Libya 2-1 and Rwanda 3-0 in their next two qualifiers. A 1-0 lead was surrendered in a 2-1 loss away to Rwanda.
Benin have since played CHAN qualifiers with a shadow squad. They lost 3-1 to Togo over two legs but those results have little impact considering the squad of locally-based players.
Benin Injuries & Team News
FC Augsburg striker Steve Mounie continues to carry the attack. He has 19 international goals to his name.
Lorient’s Tosin Aiyegun could join Mouunie in attack. Cédric Hountondji and Olivier Verdon will form a strong centre back pairing with experience David Kiki a doubt for this one.
Goalkeepers: Saturnin Allagbé, Marcel Dandjinou, Mariano Tchinonvi
Defenders: Khaled Adénon, Olivier Verdon, Cédric Hountondji, Youssouf Assogba, Mohamed Tijani, Sankamao Rabiou, Brandon Agounon, Abdoul Rachid Moumini, David Kiki
Midfielders: Mattéo Ahlinvi, Junior Olaitan, Dokou Dodo, Hassane Imourane, Rodrigue Kossi, Prince Ricardo Dossou
Forwards: Stéphane Sessègnon, Jodel Dossou, Steve Mounié, Cebio Soukou, Marcellin Koukpo, Tosin Aiyegun, Halid Djankpata, Andréas Hountondji
Nigeria Form
The Super Eagles have all but reached the next edition of the African Cup of Nations with 10 points from four qualifiers. They lost in the final of the AFCON earlier this year, 2-1 to Ivory Coast.
In June’s World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria played out a 1-1 home draw with South Africa before a 2-1 loss vs Benin. A 3-0 home win over Benin started their AFCON qualifiers.
After a 0-0 draw vs Rwanda, Nigeria won 1-0 at home against Libya. They were awarded a 3-0 forfeit win over Libya after the poor treatment received in North Africa led to the fixture being cancelled.
Nigeria Injuries & Team News
Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has Victor Osimhen available again after injury. Semi Ajayi is out injured at the back and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is dropped.
Luton Town centre-back Gabriel Osho is recalled and locally-based defender Victor Collins is a nw addition to the squad.
Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, Amas Obasogie
Defenders: William Ekong, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Gabriel Osho, Calvin Bassey, Olaoluwa Aina, Victor Collins
Midfielders: Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi
Forwards: Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, Moses Simon, Sadiq Umar
Verdict
I'm backing Nigeria to win this match. I see a clean sheet and a goal for Victor Osimhen.
