Tonga vs Fiji Predictions - Fiji set for big win over Tonga

Fiji have won their last five matches against Tonga. They last met in the 2023 Pacific Nations Cup where Fiji won 36-20 at home.

Tonga have endured a tough time in recently in terms of results. They only managed one win at the World Cup last year, however, that was understandable considering the group they were in.

Since then, Tonga have lost at home to Italy and Spain. While the Italy defeat won’t be of much concern, losing 29-20 to Spain in July was a huge upset.

In their opening Pacific Nations Cup clash, Tonga were again outplayed last weekend. They lost 43-17 to Samoa away from home.

The match started with both sides pushing for early scores, however, Tonga struggled to contain a Samoa side that clearly had far more experience than them.

Tonga are likely to ring the changes for this home match against Fiji.

Fiji are enjoying one of their best periods in many years. They had a fantastic 2023 where they reached the last eight of the World Cup. Fiji also beat England pre-tournament and Australia in the group stage.

In 2024, Fiji have beaten Georgia away from home, which is no easy task. While they suffered a heavy loss to New Zealand, the Fijians bounced back to beat Samoa 42-16 in their opening Pacific Nations Cup match.

This weekend Fiji will be looking for another resounding win against Tonga. That will put them on course to defend their title.

Fiji did not play last weekend so their players are fresh. I don’t see many changes for their side for this match.
