Chiefs vs Reds Predictions

The Reds did beat the Chiefs earlier this season, but that was a game played in Queensland. Generally, on home soil, the Chiefs tend to come out on top.

Games between these two are normally quite close, so I definitely see the Reds getting within the 9.5 handicap in Hamilton. There may be value in backing the Aussie side to pull of an upset win.

  • Chiefs have won 3 of their last 4 home matches against the Reds.
  • Chiefs have lost their last 2 matches.
  • Chiefs have won 8 of their last 9 home knockout matches.
  • Reds have on 4 of their last 5 matches.

Head to Head

Over the last six matches between these two sides, each have won three. All six games have also been decided by nine points or less.

Earlier this season, the Reds beat the Chiefs 25-19 on home soil. Playing in Hamilton will, however, be a different prospect.

Chiefs Form

The Chiefs finished the Super Rugby round robin stage I fourth place with 43 points. They won nine and lost five of their 14 games.

Inconsistency plagued the Chiefs throughout the season and they lost their final two matches at home to the Hurricanes and away to the Blues. While they are still a very dangerous prospect at home, the Chiefs have struggled on the road.

The Reds beat the Chiefs earlier this season, but that was a game in Queensland. The Hamilton-based outfit will be confident that they can progress from this fixture.

Chiefs Injuries & Team News

(1-15): Aidan Ross, Samisoni Taukei'aho, George Dyer, Jimmy Tupou, Tupou Vaa'i, Samipeni Finau, Luke Jacobson (c), Wallace Sititi, Cortez Ratima, Damian McKenzie, Etene Nanai Seturo, Rameka Poihipi, Anton Lienert-Brown, Emoni Narawa, Shaun Stevenson

Subs: Bradley Slater, Jared Proffit, Reuben O'Neill, Naitoa Ah Kuoi, Simon Parker, Xavier Roe, Quinn Tupaea, Daniel Rona

Reds Form

The Reds finished fifth on the table with eight wins and six defeats. It was the best-case scenario for them given that they were never consistent enough to challenge the top three.

A good run at the end of the campaign saw the Queensland outfit win four of their last five games. The one defeat came away to Fijian Drua.

The Reds beat the Crusaders away, the Rebels and Force at home before seeing off the Waratahs 27-26 away.

Verdict

I am backing the Reds to get within the 9.5 handicap with a possible win on the cards.
