Chiefs vs Blues Predictions

The Blues have started the season poorly and look a shadow of their dominant selves from 2024. The Chiefs, while they lost last weekend, are in much better shape and have already beaten the Blues. I’m backing the hosts to cover the -10.5 handicap.

Head to Head

Blues have won five of their last seven against the Chiefs, but it was the Chiefs who won in round one this season in Auckland.

Chiefs Form

The Chiefs currently top the Super Rugby table with three wins from four matches. They are a point ahead of the Waratahs who have a game in hand.

The Hamilton side began the season well, beating the Blues 25-14 in Auckland. They then defeated the Crusaders 49-24 before seeing off the Brumbies 49-34 a week later.

After three successive wins, the Chiefs would have been confident, but they came crashing down to earth last weekend, losing 28-24 away to Fijian Drua.

Blues Form

The Blues are the defending Super Rugby champions but have made a horror start to their season. They are currently second from bottom after four games.

The Auckland side only have one win to show for their efforts thus far. They were beaten at home by the Chiefs in round one before going down at the Highlanders in round two. The Blues then managed to defeat the Hurricanes 33-29 away from home.

That could have been the catalyst for their season to really get some momentum but last week, after building a lead, the Blues lost 21-20 at home to the Brumbies.
