While Pool A at the Rugby World Cup will provide much entertainment on the opening day with the hosts facing the All Blacks, it is in Pool B where most eyes will be fixated. World Rugby has faced much criticism of the draw because they do it three years before the showpiece event which means they use the rankings at that point.

The criticism may be valid, but it has also provided a huge contest in the group phase. One of South Africa, Ireland or Scotland are certain to exit the tournament, while Tonga have a very strong squad as well.

Pool B

This is a ridiculously strong group for the Rugby World Cup. South Africa are the defending champions, Ireland are the No.1 ranked side in the world and Scotland have proven over the last few years to be capable of beating almost anyone.

That said, with the new regulations which allows Tonga to select players that previously represented other nations, this group has turned into a nightmare for the top sides.

While top teams from other Pools will be able to rest key figures against weaker sides, Romania are the only side in Pool D that you would conceivably play a weakened side. This could have a major impact on the teams that progress from this group.
