Fiji vs Georgia Predictions - Georgia can cause Fiji concern

Georgia simply must win to have any chance of progressing, and while Fiji are in the pound seat for the quarter-final, they too cannot afford a loss.

I feel the handicap is rather generous as Georgia are a good side and they will be putting everything into this. My best bet is for Georgia to get within the 17-point handicap.

Fiji have won four of their six matches against Georgia. The last time they met the match ended in a 15-all draw in 2021.

It would be easy to say that Fiji have been the surprise package of this Rugby World Cup, but the reality is that they were always capable of producing big performances. This year they have just put it together and had time as a squad prior to the World Cup.

In their opening fixture, Fiji were slightly unfortunate to lose 32-26 to Wales. It was a pulsating encounter in which the Fijians mounted a superb comeback. It was almost complete had it not been for a knock-on after the hooter.

Despite that disappointing defeat, Fiji picked themselves up to beat Australia 22-15 a week later. That was a stunning result and the two bonus points picked up against Wales further helped their cause.

That said, Fiji cannot rest as they must win their remaining games to progress. Georgia will not be an easy ride as they also still have an outside chance of progressing.

Fiji cannot afford to rest too many players in this fixture. They simply must beat Georgia and then rest players against Portugal if they feel secure enough to progress.

Big things were expected from Georgia at the World Cup after their vast improvement in recent years. They have yet to deliver on that promise but victory over Fiji can still put them in the window to progress.
