The handicap for this fixture is one point which tells you the bookies expect it to be tight. Argentina are slight favourites and I fancy them to get a win over an England side struggling big time at the moment.

England have lost 5 of their last 6 matches.
England have won 11 of their last 12 matches against Argentina.

England have won 10 of their last 11 matches against Argentina. They met in November 2022 where Argentina won 30-29 at Twickenham.

England Form

England are not in a good place heading into the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Sacking Eddie Jones at the end of 2022 has made absolutely no impact, however, they still have a strong squad and can pull it together at any time.

The English finished fourth in the Six Nations earlier this year. That after losing to Argentina and South Africa on the end-of-year tours in 2022.

The warm-up fixtures have not gone too well either. England lost away to Wales, but bounced back to beat them at home a week later before losing convincingly to Ireland.

In their last match, England lost 30-22 at home to Fiji. That was a huge shock around the world with many starting to doubt whether England will get out of the pool in Group D.

England Injuries & Team News

This is England’s supposedly toughest match so expect Steve Borthwick to put out a strong side. But England will have to be on top of their game against Japan and Samoa as well.

Argentina Form

Argentina are a very good side and are favourites to beat England, possibly for the first time in their history. They do tend to blow hot and cold though, so the pressure is on them.

Los Pumas lost heavily at home to New Zealand in the Rugby Championship before beating Australia away. They then performed admirably in South Africa, losing 22-21. A week later they lost 24-13 at home to the Springboks.

In their final warm-up game, Argentina thrashed Spain 62-3. While not much can be read into the game, it will still give some players confidence.

Michael Cheika will certainly pick his strongest side for this clash. Los Pumas side will be announced later this week.
