When the Rugby World Cup kicks off in September most eyes will be on Pool A and B due to the lopsided nature of the draw. However, when we’re talking about major upsets, Pool C and D are where this is most likely to happen.
Pool D
England are favourites ahead of Argentina to top Pool D, although, with odds of 1.36 I see little value in backing the English. They have been poor over the last couple of years and lost at home to Argentina at the end of 2022.
While England still have time to get it right ahead of the World Cup, at this point I fancy Argentina to get one over them. But the rest of the group throws up some very interesting matchups.
Chile will feature in the first-ever World Cup and will mostly just look to make an impression. However, Samoa and Japan will have real shots at overturning one of the big two.
Who can forget Japan beating both Ireland and Scotland at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. It is one of the best rugby stories going around, and they still have a quality side so do not rule them out in 2023.
Samoa have the players and ability to at least upset one of the top three sides, however, their consistency and discipline has often stopped them from making any meaningful impact.
