Head to Head
Wales have won four of their last seven against Australia, including a 40-6 thrashing at the World Cup last year. However, when they met earlier this year in Australia, the hosts won both games.
Wales Form
Wales have lost their last 10 matches in total under Warren Gatland, so their confidence is at an all-time low. After losing in the quarter-final of the World Cup last year to Argentina, Wales finished bottom of the Six Nations without a win.
While Wales were reasonably good in Australia during the July window, they still lost both games by nine and 12 and 8 points. Prior to that the Welsh were hammered by South Africa 41-13.
Last week, Wales started well against Fiji, but they couldn’t maintain that pace in the second half. Fiji fought back to win the match 24-19 at the Principality.
Wales Injuries & Team News
Warren Gatland has once again made some big calls in selection and also returns to the 5-3 split on the bench.
Australia Form
Australia are starting to show signs of improvement in their game under Joe Schmidt. They finished bottom of the Rugby Championship earlier this year with just one win in six games.
Prior to that tournament, the Wallabies did beat Wales twice and Georgia once at home. However, after a poor start to the Rugby Championship, Australia seemingly started putting things together.
In their opening November tour game last weekend, the Wallabies surprised everyone, beating England 42-37 at Twickenham with a last-minute try. It was a cracking game that swung from one side to the other but ultimately, the Wallabies came up with the crucial play.
Australia Injuries & Team News
Schmidt has made some changes to his side; not all have been taken very well by the public. It is still a strong side and one must consider they are still building a squad.
Verdict
Wales can get within 5.5 points of Australia and perhaps upset the odds at home with a win.
