England have been made favourites and rightly so. The five-point handicap may be a bit low so I’m backing South Africa to lose by more than five points.

South Africa have had a relatively poor World Rugby Championship to date. They qualified for the semi-finals by the skin of their teeth with wins over Argentina and Georgia, however, they lost to Italy.

In the semi-final last weekend the Baby Boks ran into a far superior side in Ireland. While the tournament hosts kept it tight for the first half, in the second Ireland were far too good.

The 31-12 loss for South Africa was pretty much what was expected based on performances in the tournament. They have another chance to end on a high against England though.

It does not seem like the Baby Boks have settled on their best side throughout the tournament. There have been changes throughout, expect the same for this clash.

England U20 Form

England had a poor 2023 Six Nations campaign, finishing below Italy in fourth place. But the English are always competitive at the World Rugby Championships, and they proved so again.

The English managed a draw in their opening game against the more fancied Ireland, before going on to beat Fiji and draw with Australia.

In the semi-final, England went down 51-32 to France. It was a valiant effort against the tournament favourites, but defensively they slipped far too many tackles.
