This rugby union fixture dates back to the first match played between the two in 1927 at Murrayfield in Edinburgh. Scotland won that first match 10-8, but it was 20 years before the two teams played again, with Australia winning that second Test in 1947 by 17-6, again at Murrayfield.
Scotland went on to win seven of the first nine Tests between the two sides up to 1982. Australia then turned their fortunes around, running out winners in 16 matches in a row. Scotland then won five of the eight matches between 2009 to 2021, which saw Scotland rugby enjoying a period of great success.

Rugby World Cup Record
Australia and Scotland have met on two occasions at the Rugby World Cup, with both meetings happening at the quarter-final stage, Australia winning both matches en route to the final in both years. Australia lost in both finals, first to England and then to New Zealand.
Their first meeting at the World Cup took place in the 2003 quarter-final where Australia won comfortably by 33-16 at Lang Park in Brisbane. Australia scored three tries to one, with Scotland’s try a consolation effort in the final minute of play.
Their only other meeting was in the 2015 quarter-final, which Australia won 35-34 after a thrilling clash, thanks to a last-minute penalty from Bernard Foley. Australia scored five tries to three in one of the best matches of that year's World Cup.
