This rugby union fixture dates back to the first match played between the two in 1949. Since then, they have met on 53 occasions with France the dominant force.

Argentina achieved their first win over France in their 16th encounter in 1985. Until then, France had won 14 and drawn one. Los Pumas longest winning streak against the French came between 2002 and 2004 where they won four in a row.

Still, despite France having the better of this fixture, Argentina have achieved more success against the French than against any of the other top rugby nations.

Rugby World Cup Record

Argentina and France have met on four occasions at the Rugby World Cup. The first meeting at the World Cup took place in 1999 where France won an exciting contest 47-26 at Lansdowne Road in Ireland.

At the 2007 Rugby World Cup played in France, they met twice – in the opening game of the tournament and in third place playoff. Argentina won on both occasions in front of the partisan French crowd.

In the 2019 Rugby World Cup group stage, these two produced a classic, a match France narrowly won 23-21.

2024 Argentina vs France Fixtures

France traveled to Argentina for a two-match series in July 2024. The series was drawn 1-1. France host Argentina at the Stade de France in November 2024.
