England vs South Africa Preview
England lost by a point to South Africa at the World Cup last year and despite being in a poor run results wise, the English performances have not been bad. I am backign the hosts to get within the handicap.

Head to Head
Two of the last three games between England and South Africa have been decided by one point. Their last meeting, during the 2023 Rugby World Cup semi-final, Handre Pollard slotted a last-minute 50m penalty to secure a 16-15 victory.
England Form
England are in a very tricky place at the moment in terms of results. In total, they have lost their last four matches and five of their last six, with only a victory against Japan to show.
However, that doesn’t tell the full story. At the end of the Six Nations, in which England beat Ireland at home and took France to the death in Paris, England beat Japan.
That was followed by a two-match series in New Zealand where England lost both games by one and seven points. A fortnight ago, England should have beaten New Zealand at home but late errors allowed the All Blacks a 24-22 win.
Against Australia last week, England again should have won, but once again, after putting themselves in a winning position, conceded a last-minute try to lose 42-37.
The English will be desperate to put an end to their losing streak and I for one, wouldn’t put it past them. They have a history for raising their game against South Africa and I’m pretty sure this will be closer than many think.
England Injuries & Team News
With Tom Curry injured, Steve Borthwick has to make at least one change. He may opt for more, but his side has not been playing poorly, they have just struggled to put teams away when they looked to be in winning positions.
South Africa Form
South Africa are in great form at the moment and as Rugby Championship and Rugby World Cup winners, enter the game as comfortable favourites.
The Springboks have only lost two games this season, the first to a last-minute drop goal against Ireland and to Argentina away – both games were one-point defeats.
Rassie Erasmus’ side swatted Australia aside twice in the Rugby Championship, beat the All Blacks at home on two occasions and thrashed Argentina at home, after losing away the week before.
Last weekend, South Africa were too good for Scotland, winning by 17 points while being very far from their best.
South Africa Injuries & Team News
Rassie Erasmus fielded what many would consider a second-string side last weekend against Scotland. He is likely to revert back to the regular players for what is undoubtedly their biggest match of the tour.
Verdict
England can get within eight points with a possible upset win.
