When these two met in July in a two-match series, both matches went down to the wire. While England came up short on both occasions, a sold-out Twickenham could swing things on Saturday.

Head to Head

In five of the last seven matches between these sides, New Zealand have won by seven or less points. England only have one win and a draw in those fixtures, but they have tended to be very close.

England Form

England seem to be finding their feet again after a poor couple of years. While it wasn’t pretty, the 2023 World Cup performance gave the English confidence with a third-place finish.

They took that into the Six Nations where they beat Ireland at home. Despite losing to France and Scotland, that one performance was enough to make people take notice again.

England then toured New Zealand in July where they lost the series 2-0. However, the first match ended in a 16-15 loss and the second 24-17.

Both games could have gone the other way and England will know that. They will be well up for this encounter to get some revenge.

England Injuries & Team News

Marcus Smith starts at 10 with Ben Spencer getting the nod at scrumhalf. Marco Itoje is one of four vice-captains as he makes his 85th appearance for England. Jamie George captains from hooker.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand are in a bit of a transition period, however, that looks different to them than almost any other side. The All Blacks are still expected to win consistently despite not being at their best.

After beating England in the mid-year tour, the All Blacks finished second in the Rugby Championship. New Zealand lost three of their six matches, going down twice to South Africa and once at home to Argentina.

The last two games of the competition did see the All Blacks get back-to-back wins as they defeated Australia both home and away.

Scott Robertson is likely to stick with a similar side to the Rugby Championship. They started to find their feet towards the end of the tournament which will be a good confidence boost for them.

Verdict

England are backed to get within five points and perhaps win the game.
