England vs Australia Preview

England put in a strong performance last week and should have beaten the All Blacks. This week, against a struggling Aussie side, I am backing England to end their losing streak with a win by 13+ points.

Head to Head

England have won nine of their last 10 games against Australia. They last met in 2022; a match England won 21-17 in Australia.

England Form

England come into this game in a bit of a weird space. Their rugby has vastly improved since the World Cup, but they have also lost three successive games, all against New Zealand.

In July, the 2-0 defeat in New Zealand saw England push the World Cup runners-up to the brink on both occasions. Last week, at Twickenham, England should have won the game against the All Blacks but let it slip at the death when an attempted drop goal went awry.

Australia Form

Australia are very much in a transition phase. They finished bottom of the Rugby Championship with just one win in six matches.

There were certainly aspects of the game that the Wallabies have improved on, but it is still a long way to go for them. England are ahead in terms of their transition under Steve Borthwick.

That said, the Wallabies still have some very exciting players who can break a game open. Their biggest issue is staying in the contest up front, if they manage that, the Aussies could be in with a shout.
