Head to Head
Four of the last six games between these sides have gone in South Africa's favour, including the 2023 Rugby World Cup final.
South Africa Form
South Africa are in superb form and are favourites to not only win this match, but the entire Rugby Championship. They have begun the tournament with two bonus point victories over Australia away from home.
In the first game, the Springboks cruised to a 33-7 win in Sydney before settling for a 30-12 victory in Perth a week later. The latter game was played with a completely second-string side.
Looking back, the Springboks form has been magnificent since they lost to New Zealand away last year. They have won every game since, bar the two fixtures against Ireland.
South Africa Injuries & Team News
South Africa have made nine changes to their side but that was expected after experimenting last time out. Fortunately, lock Eben Etzebeth has been passed fit to play.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand rugby is in transition at the moment with Scott Robertson in charge. That said, it doesn’t make the All Blacks easy beats, they still have a world class side to put out on the field.
The All Blacks were too good for England in two Test matches during July before they comfortably saw off Fiji. However, cracks were appearing in the side and Argentina took advantage in round one of the Rugby Championship.
Los Pumas caused a huge upset, beating New Zealand 38-30 in Wellington. The All Blacks bounced back a week later to win 42-10 in a dominant performance.
New Zealand Injuries & Team News
The All Blacks are still in the stage of trying to figure out the best combinations. They may try a few new things again at Ellis Park.
Verdict
I am backing South Africa to cover the -7 handicap with a possibility of winning by 12+ points.
