The Stormers will go into this season full of confidence. While fortune has certainly favoured them in their first two seasons, they have still hosted two finals, winning one.

Last season the Cape side lost out at home to a very motivated Munster side. They will want to turn the tables, but a good start is necessary for Dobson’s side.

The Stormers begin the season with five away games in the first six rounds. First up is the Lions at Emirates Airline Park before they host the Scarlets at the Cape Town Stadium. Thereafter the Cape side embark on a four-week tour of Scotland, Italy, Wales, and Ireland.

This will be a crucial start to the tournament. Getting wins in the first two rounds at the Lions and at home against the Scarlets is key. If the Stormers get through the first six rounds with two defeats, they will be well set for another top season.

On another note, the Rugby World Cup final takes place on 28 October which means the Stormers, and other sides, will be missing top international players. Even once the teams are knocked out, or the World Cup is complete, players will need to rest.
