The Sharks are favourites at home, particularly with their Springbok players all starting this weekend. While the Stormers will be confident after their win last week, this Sharks team is exceptionally strong. I’m backing the hosts to win by more than six points.

The Sharks are the highest ranked South African team in the United Rugby Championship. They are currently 10th with three wins and three defeats.

Recent form has been good for the Durban-based franchise after a slow start. They beat the Ospreys 27-13 away before a narrow 23-17 defeat at Cardiff.

A return home saw the Sharks beat the Bulls 30-16 in early December. Last week the Sharks beat the Lions 47-37 in a high scoring derby in Johannesburg.

There are just two changes to Sean Everitt’s side this weekend. Springbok duo, Siya Kolisi and Bongi Mbonambi both start in the pack.

Stormers Form

Stormers have impressed since their URC campaign began. They lost narrowly 22-18 at Benetton before going down 24-18 against a very strong Munster outfit.

Thereafter John Dobson’s side drew 20-20 in Edinburgh before beating the Dragons 24-10 in Newport. Their last match of 2021 was probably their worst performance as the Lions shocked the Stormers 37-19 in Cape Town.

Last week the Cape franchise bounced back to upset the odds in a 30-26 away against the Bulls. While they were outplayed for large periods, a superb defensive display saw the Stormers snatch a late win.

John Dobson has made three changes to his Stormers side this weekend.

Hacjivah Daimani and Adre Smith is called into the team to replace the injured Evan Roos and Salmaan Moerat. The only backline change sees Angelo Davids come in on the wing in place of Sergeal Petersen.
