Lions vs Edinburgh Predictions - Edinburgh can challenge Lions on the highveld

Last season Edinburgh beat the Lions 17-16 on home soil.

The Lions will be looking for a second home win to get their season started this weekend when they face off against Edinburgh.

After the South African sides missed round one, the Lions got their season off to a strong start last weekend, beating Ulster 35-22 at home.

The match was largely dominated, particularly in the first half, by the Lions who were confident after reaching the Currie Cup final the week prior.

There may be a couple of rotational changes to the side, but the Lions do have a settled side, so don’t expect too many differences from last week.

Edinburgh have not made the best start to the 2024/25 United Rugby Championship season, losing their opening two matches.

In round one, the Scottish side when down 33-31 at home to Leinster. It was a game Edinburgh would feel they should have won against a side without many first team starts.

However, last week, Edinburgh made the trip down to South Africa, facing off against the URC runners-up from last season, the Bulls. Edinburgh lost the game 22-16 but again would feel like they should have won.

They dominated much of the set piece, but poor discipline cost them in the end. Avoiding defeat this weekend will be key as a start with three losses could prove costly later in the tournament.

Given that this is their third game and their second in South Africa, Edinburgh are likely to rotate against the Lions on Saturday.
