Leinster vs Lions Preview

Both Leinster and the Lions have won all their games this season and are rightly one and two on the table. However, Leinster are very difficult to beat in Ireland, so I foresee a comfortable win for the hosts.

  • Leinster have won 4 consecutive home matches.
  • Lions have won all their URC matches this season.

Head to Head

Leinster have won two of their three previous fixtures against the Lions. Lions have one win.

Leinster Form

Leinster maintained a one hundred per cent winning start to their URC campaign with a comfortable 33-12 away victory over Connacht last weekend.

The away side dotted down three converted tries in the first half against Connacht to go into the break with a 21-5 lead.

Leinster added two more tries and one conversion in the second half to seal the points.

Leinster have played two home fixtures this season, defeating the Dragons 34-6 and Munster 26-12.

Leinster are first in the URC standings with 25 points from five matches.

Leinster have been in great touch thus far and are on a four-match winning streak at home, giving them the edge over the Lions.

Leinster Team News & Injuries

Jamie Osbourne, Liam Turner, RG Snyman, Max Deegan, and Andrew Osbourne scored a try each last weekend.

Ciara Frawley kicked over a penalty early in the contest against Connacht before being taken off.

Replacement Ross Byrne slotted over three conversions in the match.

Lions Form

The Lions did enough to see off Zebre, edging the Italian team 10-9 away from home last weekend.

Zebre took a 6-0 lead against the Lions after scoring two penalties during the first 21 minutes of play before the Lions scored a converted try seven minutes later to go into the break with a one-point advantage.

The Lions edged further ahead after kicking over a penalty two minutes into the second half to lead 10-6 before Zebre slotted a penalty four minutes later.

The Lions defeated the Dragons 23-19 in their only other away match this season.

The Lions are second in the URC table with 18 points from four fixtures.

The Lions have yet to taste defeat this season but will find the going tough in Ireland, as Leinster are a tough nut to crack on their home patch.

Lions Team News & Injuries

Winger Edwill Van der Merwe scored a first-half try against Zebre Parma last weekend.

Sanele Nohamba kicked over a conversion and a penalty in the game.

Verdict

Leinster have been in top form this season and are tipped to cover the -18.5 handicap in this top-of-the-table clash against the Lions.
