Northampton started the second half with a 13-7 lead over their opponents before they scored back-to-back converted tries in the 44th and 48th minutes of the match to extend their advantage to 27-7.

However, Northampton conceded two converted tries in the remaining 12 minutes of the game against the Exeter Chiefs but held onto their lead until the final whistle.

Before that victory, the Saints lost 38-16 against Bath away from home in their season opener.
