This is a repeat of the 2023/24 Rugby Premiership final, a game that saw the Saints narrowly win. This is expected to be super close again, but I fancy Bath to cover the -3 handicap on home soil.

Last season each of these sides won their home fixture against the other. They met in the Premiership final again, a match Northampton won 25-21.

After a few years of battling it out at the bottom of the table, Bath finally game good last season. They won 11 of their 18 matches in the Premiership to finish second on the table.

Bath were level on points with Northampton Saints, who topped the table but had a slightly inferior points difference. They both won their semi-final ties before meeting in the final at Twickenham.

It was a stellar final in London which eventually went the way of the Saints. Bath battled bravely throughout but lost the game 25-21 at the end.

Scotland international flyhalf, Finn Russell will once again be key to Bath’s success, not just in this game but over the course of the season. Prop Thomas du Toit will still be away on international duty with South Africa for the opening two weeks of the tournament.

Northampton Form

Northampton topped the Rugby Premiership table last season with 12 wins and six defeats in their 18 matches. They went on to win their semi-final against Saracens before beating Bath in the final to become champions.

It was a long time coming for the Saints who had not been competing at the top of the table for a number of years. It is quite fitting that this season kicks off with a repeat of the final last season, a superb match that ultimately had to have one loser.

Northampton Injuries & Team News

England international Alex Mitchell will be a key player for the Saints once again. They are a side mostly built on team ethic with not too many international stars hanging about.
