This is a very tough one to call. On current form, the Lions look like they will get the result in Bloemfontein, but the Cheetahs have a very good side and could easily take the victory.

However, I am backing recent form for this one, so the Lions by more than three points looks a good bet.

In the last meeting between these sides, the Lions won 33-26 away from home during the 2023 Currie Cup.

Cheetahs Form

The defending Currie Cup champions are not looking too good this season despite still holding onto third spot. They started strongly and were tournament favourites, but their performance have left much to be desired.

After thrashing the Griffons and Western Province in the first two rounds, the Cheetahs lost at the Bulls. They then just managed to beat the Griffons away from home, a team everyone has been beating comfortably.

The Cheetahs put in a superb second half performance at home to the Bulls thereafter to draw 34-all before seeing off Western Province by seven points in Cape Town.

Last week, the Cheetahs suffered their first home defeat of the season, going down 25-20 to the Sharks after the visitors scored late on in the game.

Cheetahs have a very good side, but they are not performing up to standard this season. They may start clicking at just the right time though, so I don’t see them making too many changes.

Lions Form

The Lions are having a very strong season and are currently placed second on the table, three points behind the Bulls. They have lost just one of their seven matches to date.

The Johannesburg-based side have been solid all season, losing just one game in round four to the Sharks. Since that defeat, the Lions have beaten Griquas, Pumas and Western Province with relative ease.

This is a massive match for the Lions as victory will all but secure a top two finish. They will certainly be at full strength.
