The Free State Cheetahs are the defending champions and play their opening fixture on 6 July at home against the Griffons. A day earlier, Griquas host 2022 Champions, Pumas in the opening match of the tournament. 

Western Province, the most successful side in Currie Cup history, have to wait until 7 July to get their first game when they host the Bulls from Pretoria in the North/South derby.

Because the tournament runs concurrently with the July internationals and the Rugby Championship thereafter, the national players will not feature in the tournament (unless released by the Springboks and cleared to play).

The round robin stage of the 2024 Currie Cup runs until 8 September. There are 10 rounds in total before the knockouts begin.

Each team plays the other three teams in their group home and away. Then, each team plays the four teams in the other group either home or away before the knockout stages. The top two from each pool qualifies for the semi-finals.

Pool A is the 'group of death with three of the top 5 most successful sides. Pool B on the other hand also has a few surprises on offer as Griquas and Pumas have performed exceptionally well over the last couple of years.
