San Francisco 49er Recent Form
San Francisco go into the NFC Championship Game having won four straight games, with one of those victories coming against the Los Angeles Rams.
The 49ers bounced back from the loss in Tennessee with a 23-7 victory over Houston in Week 17.
That put their postseason fate in their own hands going into their final regular season game, and they found themselves in serious trouble early on in Los Angeles.
The Rams took a 17-0 lead the first half and the Niners did not get on the board until Robbie Gould hit a 42-yard field goal as time expired in the second.
That proved to be the spark though as San Francisco came storming back to level it up at 17-17 by the end of the third quarter.
LA went back in front with less than three minutes remaining, but Jauan Jenning’s touchdown with 26 seconds left to force overtime.
Gould then sealed a trip to the playoffs for the 49ers when he converted a 24-yard field go with 2:45 left in overtime.
A week later they went back out on the road and dumped Dallas out in the Wildcard round with a 23-17 victory.
That set up another postseason meeting with Green Bay and a dominant defensive display kept them in the game as the offense spluttered.
San Francisco trailed 10-3 with less than five minutes to go, but a blocked punt turned into a touchdown to haul them level.
Then, for the second time in three weeks, Gould nailed a game-winning field goal, this time as regulation time expired, to seal a 13-10 upset.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo is now 328/485 for 4,113 yards and 20 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Deebo Samuel is the offense’s biggest weapon having racked up 1,487 yards receiving and six touchdowns. He also has 476 rushing yards and nine TDs on the ground.
George Kittle (991 yards, six TDs) and Brandon Aiyuk (892 yards, five TDs) are also key figures in San Francisco’s passing game.
Elijah Mitchell is also a key cog in this offense, he has 1,112 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
The 49ers’ defense has been built on the back of great defense and so far they have allowed just 13.5 points per game in the playoffs.
They have also held 10 of their last 11 opponents to less than 100 yards rushing, including the Rams.
Los Angeles Rams Recent Form
Los Angeles have won seven of their last eight games heading into the NFC Champions Games.
The Rams experienced a mini-crisis around their bye week as they lost three straight games against teams that made the postseason.
That made the timing of a home game with Jacksonville perfect, and they took full advantage in a 37-7 win.
They followed that up with a big division win over Arizona, 30-23, and then made it three-in-a-row with a 20-10 win against Seattle.
LA took their streak to five games on the road as they knocked off Minnesota and Baltimore, but it was then halted in Week 18.
The Rams blew a 17-point lead and then a seven-point lead as they lost in overtime to San Francisco, meaning the 49ers swept the regular season series.
They bounced back in dominant fashion a week later, shutting down the Arizona offense in a commanding 34-11 victory on Wildcard Weekend.
That set up a trip to face defending champions Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium, and Los Angeles raced out of the blocks in that one.
Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 17-3 lead, and that lead was increased to 27-3 midway through the third period.
However, what followed next was a catastrophic collapse that saw the offense stall and turn the ball over a couple of times.
That gave Tom Brady and the Buccaneers a route back into the game and they took it, putting up 24 unanswered points to level it with 46 seconds to go.
Momentum was firmly on the Bucs’ side, but LA showed resolve as Stafford hit Cooper Kupp on back-to-back passes to move the Rams into range with just four seconds left.
Matt Gay then booted in a 30-yard field goal as time expired to lift Los Angeles to a wild 30-27 win.
QB Stafford’s heroics mean he is now 445/656 for 5,454 yards, 45 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Cooper Kupp has been his favourite target in the passing game and now has 2,191 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Odell Beckham Jr is starting to make an impact in the passing game and he now has 428 yards and six TDs.
Sony Michel leads the team in rushing with 907 yards and four TDs, to go along with 128 yards receiving and a further score.
Defensively the Rams gave up a bunch of points late in the win over Tampa, but for the most part they dominated the Bucs.
They now have four takeaways in the postseason and have held their last two opponents to a combined 112 yards rushing.

Los Angeles are the favourites, but San Francisco have had their number in recent seasons.
Kyle Shanahan knows how to get the better of Sean McVay – he has done it six times in a row.
That track record is too good to overlook so we are backing the underdog 49ers to cover the spread.
