This weekend at the Hungaroring is all about one thing, the return of Daniel Ricciardo to the F1 paddock in the Alpha Tauri garage.

The return of Formula 1’s most popular fan favourite has been highly publicised over the last week and all eyes will be on how the Aussie performs in his first race back after leaving McLaren last season.
Last year’s result in Hungary does not bode well for the rest of the field, with Max Verstappen coming from 10th place on the grid, after suffering power trouble in qualifying, taking a comfortable race win in the end.
Ferrari had the grand prix in their grasp but after another poor decision from their team engineers putting both drivers on hard tyres, saw the race slip away with the two Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell taking the second and third step on the podium.
Hungarian GP Qualifying Best Bet
It is simply not a good idea to bet against Max Verstappen, so don’t. You get better odds picking him to win pole than you do for a race win.
The real VALUE is taking Verstappen for Pole + Race Win + Fastest lap at 2.50, which the Dutchman has done in three of the last four races.
Hungarian GP Best Bet
If you are going to take Max Verstappen and the Red Bull for the treble then you need to have another race bet up your sleeve and betting on Lewis Hamilton in Hungary is a smart option.
Hamilton has eight Hungarian Grand Prix victories and 11 total podium finishes, including back-to-back runner-up showings in 2021 and 2022.
A podium for the Brit in his Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E looks the goods, especially with the seven-time World Champ being the fourth favourite at 2.20.
Hungarian GP Daniel Ricciardo Best Bet
Will Daniel Ricciardo be able to produce the Hollywood story and get a points finish in his return to the Formula 1 grid? Can he even outperform his teammate at Alpha Tauri, Yuki Tsunoda, which would also turn some heads?
Historically Ricciardo hasn't done too well at the Hungaroring, when he is not in a Red Bull. The Australian has only finished in the points twice in eight races with an average finishing position of 13, when not driving for the Austrian manufacturer.
Ricciardo has driven for five different teams in his Formula 1 career since 2011. In his debut race for each team his best finishing position was seventh with McLaren in 2021 in Bahrain. He has finished 9th with Toro Rosso and 19th with HRT while recording a DSQ and a DNF with Red Bull and Renault, respectively.
Reports say that Ricciardo recently clocked a front-row worthy time at the Pirelli Tyre test at Silverstone just over a week ago while driving the Red Bull RB19. Does this mean that he is going to pull out impressive times in the AlphaTauri AT02, no, but it does mean that he still has what it takes to be a Formula 1 driver at the top level.
Verdict
The only way to get value out of Max Verstappen is to back him for the Pole, Win & Fastest lap treble, which has paid well recently. Lewis Hamilton holds the track record for most wins in Hungary and rarely misses the podium so a top 3 finish is a given. Daniel Ricciardo returns to F1 and he will complete the fairytale with a points finish.
