Grand Heritage Betting Tips, Best Bookmakers & Free Bets
Vaal is home to the Grand Heritage Day, which has five feature races headlined by the R750,000 Grand Heritage over 1475m down the Vaal straight track.
Our South African bookmakers offer odds for all Grand Heritage Day races.
Grand Heritage History
The Vaal sand track was opened in 2001 and once a population of sand horses had been established, a major race in the Emerald Cup was introduced in 2005 carrying a stake of R200,000.
The 1450m race was sponsored by Emerald Casino and Resort from its inception until 2014.
A new sponsor, enterprise application software company SAP, was announced in 2015 and the race renamed the Supreme Cup.
Africa’s richest race on sand was given Grade 2 status in 2007 and the stake was raised to R1 million in 2014.
Soon after the 2015 Supreme Cup, the sand surface was lifted and replaced by grass with the new track being named Vaal Classic.
Africa's richest race on sand has now been replaced by the Non-Black Type R750,000 Grand Heritage, to be run over 1475m on the Vaal straight, with the rail separating the Inside and Outside Tracks being removed to allow for a maximum field size of 28 runners and two reserves.
Four Non-Black Type supporting features are run on the same day.
