This weekend we are at Muirfield Village for the penultimate PGA Tour Signature event of the season. The field is filled with elite golfers as they decent mon the Memorial Tournament.
Viktor Hovland has returend as defending champions after winning the 2023 event.
Past and present major winners who will tee off at Muirfield Village on Thursday include Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Lucas Glover, Shane Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
These are our top four selections that could win the title this weekend.
Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa has been producing superb results on the PGA Tour lately, placing T3 at the Masters, 9th at the RBC Heritage, T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T16 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T4 at the PGA Championship and T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Other noteworthy performances achieved by Morikawa this year include finishing T5 at the Sentry, T14 at the AT&T Pebble Beah Pro-Am, and T19 at the Genesis Invitational.
The world's eighth-ranked golfer has featured four times at the Memorial Tournament, with results of T48 in 2020, 2nd in 2021, and MC in 2022, before withdrawing from the 2023 edition.
Morikawa has been knocking hard lately and will fancy his chances to lift the trophy at Muirfield Village come Sunday.
Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas started his PGA Tour season in top form, placing T3 at the American Express, T6 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T12 at the WM Phoenix Open, MC at the Genesis Invitational, T12 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and MC at the Players Championship.
Thomas struggled with his game after those performances, finishing T64 at the Valspar Championship and MC at the Masters before regaining his touch, placing T5 at the RBC Heritage, T31 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T8 at the PGA Championship.
The two-time Major champion has compiled a solid record at the Memorial Tournament, with results of MC in 2015, MC in 2016, T4 in 2017, T8 in 2018, MC in 2019, T18 in 2020, T42 in 2021 and MC in 2023.
Thomas has been showing signs he is ready to register another victory on the PGA Tour.
Russell Henley
Russell Henley was in decent nick at the beginning of the year on the PGA Tour, finishing T52 at the Sentry, T4 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T58 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T24 at the Genesis Invitational and T41 at the Cognizant Classic.
Henley has found another gear lately, placing T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, MC at the Players Championship, 4th at the Valero Texas Open, T38 at the Masters, T12 at the RBC Heritage, T10 at the Wells Fargo Championshi and T23 at the PGA Championship.
The 35-year-old American has a long history at the Memorial Tournament, finishing T6 in 2013, MC in 2014, MC in 2015, T33 in 2016, T29 in 2018, MC in 2021 and T16 in 2023.
Henley has had an impressive season thus far and will look to cap off his recent displays on the golf course with the victory at Muirfield Village.
Sepp Straka
Sepp Straka has been in excellent touch on the PGA Tour since March, placing T16 at the Players Championship, MC at the Valspar Championship, T16 at the Masters, T5 at the RBC Heritage, T11 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T8 at the Wells Fargo Championship, MC at the PGA Championship and T5 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Other prominent results achieved by Straka include finishing T12 at the Sentry and T26 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The Austrian has made four appearances at the Memorial Tournament, finishing 61st in 2020, MC in 2021, T45 in 2022, and T16 in 2023.
Straka is the long-shot value bet in Ohio, as he has had two top-five places in his previous five tournaments.
Verdict
Thomas brings solid form into this tournament and will be challenging for the victory come Sunday.
Henley has threatened to put in a winning performance in recent months and can make his presence felt in Ohio.
Straka has been thereabouts and could cause an upset victory at the Memorial Tournament this weekend.
