After a two-week pause, the PGA is back with a mix of rookies and seasoned professionals competing for the title at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Who will rise to the challenge and win in Mississippi this weekend?

Luke List returns to defend his title after a playoff victory over Ludvig Aberg, Ben Griffin, Hendrik Norlander, and Scott Stallings.

Past major winners in the field include Lucas Glover. Zach Johnson, and Gary Woodland. Previous champions of this tournament are also competing: Mackenzie Hughes, Cameron Champ, Ryan Armour, Cody Gribble, Paul Malnati and Scott Stallings.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

J.J. Spaun

J.J. Spaun has come good on the PGA Tour in recent months after struggling with his game for the first half of the year, placing T10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T23 at the John Deere Classic, T46 at the ISCO Championship, T29 at the Barracuda Championship, T9 at the 3M Open, T3 at the Wyndham Championship and T26 at the Procore Championship.

The American contested the Sanderson Farms Championship on five occasions, with results of MC in 2016, T34 in 2017, T36 in 2019, MC in 2020 and 68th in 2021.

Spaun will fancy his chances to take home the winner's cheque in Mississippi after recording three top-ten places in his last seven outings.

Patrick Fishburn

Patrick Fishburn has been in excellent form on the PGA Tour since the end of June, placing T25 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, MC at the John Deere Classic, 15th at the ISCO Championship, 3rd at the Barracuda Championship, T6 at the 3M Open, MC at the Wyndham Championship and 3rd at the Procore Championship.

Other prominent results achieved by Fishburn this season include finishing T23 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T20 at the Myrtle Beach Classic, and T17 at the Kansas Wichita Open (Korn Ferry Tour).

The 32-year-old American will debut at the Sanderson Farms Championship this weekend.

Fishburn has been ranking high on the leaderboards lately and can secure his maiden title this Sunday.

Eric Cole

Eric Cole rediscovered his touch from on the PGA Tour at the end of June, placing T6 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T7 at the John Deere Classic, T46 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T31 at the Open Championship, T7 at the Wyndham Championship, and T18 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

He then finish T46 at the BMW Championship and missing the cut at the recent Procore Championship.

Other notable results achieved by Cole this season include finishing T14 at the Sentry, T13 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T21 at the American Express, T14 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T10 at the Genesis Invitational and T21 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The 36-year-old missed the cut at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship on debut before finishing T35 last year.

Cole has the form to make his presence felt at the Country Club of Jackson this weekend.

Matt Kuchar

Matt Kuchar has found some form after struggling to find any rhythm on the golf course, placing T25 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, MC at the John Deere Classic, T3 at the 3M Open, T12 at the Wyndham Championship and T13 at the Procore Championship.

Kuchar's only additional highlight this season was a T17 result at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The eight-time PGA Tour winner has made just one appearance at this event, missing the cut in 2007.

Kuchar has found consistency lately and should enter calculations in Mississippi this weekend.

Verdict

Spaun has posted solid results during the latter half of the year and can go all the way at the Sanderson Farms Championship this weekend.

Fishburn has been knocking hard to register his maiden PGA Tour title in Mississippi.

Cole has been playing good golf lately and can secure victory at the Country Club of Jackson this Sunday.

Kuchar is in decent nick and could cause an upset victory this weekend.
