The Hundred was designed to provide a more fast-paced version of cricket than traditional T20 tournaments. It features city-based franchises and a mix of domestic and international players, with each team playing 100-ball innings to determine the champion each season.

In 2016, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) initiated a new cricket format where teams would play a single innings of 100 balls each, with matches lasting around two and a half hours.

After refining the rules over a few years, the inaugural The Hundred tournament was held in 2021, featuring both men's and women's matches at the same venue.

The eight teams participated in the first season, including the Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, Trent Rockets, and Welsh Fire.

The Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave contested the inaugural final, with the Oval Invincibles winning by 48 runs to secure the title.

The Oval Invincibles repeated their success the following season against the same opposition, defeating the Southern Brave in the final by five wickets.

In 2023, the Southern Brave competed in their third straight final, beating the Northern Superchargers by 34 runs to clinch their first title.

The 2024 final saw two first-time finalists competing for The Hundred crown, with the London Spirit defeating the Welsh Fire by four wickets.

The group stage of The Hundred features 32 matches played between eight city-based teams. Each team will play four games at home and four away, facing every other team once, plus an additional fixture against their nearest regional rival.

The fielding side bowls 100 balls each innings, changing ends after every ten balls. Bowlers can deliver five or ten consecutive balls at the captain's discretion, with a maximum of 20 balls allowed per bowler per match.

Teams earn two points for a win, none for a loss, and one point each if the match ends in a tie.

The team that finishes first in the league standings advances directly to the final. The second and third-placed teams face off in the Eliminator, with the winner securing a place in the final.
