West Indies vs South Africa Preview
South Africa have dominated the West Indies in Test cricket in recent meetings. I am backing that to continue in the opening match of this series.

- West Indies have lost their last 3 Test matches.
- West Indies’ Kraigg Brathwaite scored 50+ runs in his last Test match.
- South Africa have won their last 5 Test matches against the West Indies.
- South Africa have lost their last 2 Test matches.
- South Africa’s David Bedingham scored 110 runs in his last Test innings.
Head to Head
In their last five Test matches, the Proteas from South Africa have won on all five occasions.
West Indies Form
The West Indies come into this series off the back of a 3-0 series whitewash in England. They lost all three games with relative ease, although conditions should be more suitable at home.
The one positive from the last Test against England will be Kraigg Brathwaite who scored 61 to find some form. Jason Holder also managed a score of 50+ in the first innings.
The West South African bowlers will feel better against South Africa though, as the visitors are likely to be far more defensive that the English batsmen were.
West Indies Injuries & Team News
The Windies have to keep trying to build their Test side, so I don’t foresee them making wholesale changes.
South Africa Form
South Africa have not played any Test cricket since their 2-0 series defeat in New Zealand in February this year. On that occasion, due to the ongoing SA20 tournament, the Proteas sent a third string side to New Zealand.
However, the Proteas have played a warmup match in the West Indies where the batsmen got some time in the middle. Aiden Markram retired on 82 runs while Temba Bavuma, Daving Bedingham, Ryan Rickleton and Kyle Verreynne also all retired with 50+ scores.
South Africa Injuries & Team News
South Africa have a few promising youngsters on the batting front that will be good to look at this series. David Bedingham averages close to 50 in his short career while a few others will be looking to make their mark.
Verdict
David Bedingham is backed to top score in the first innings for South Africa and score 50+ as well.
For the hosts, Kraigg Brathwaite is tipped to top score in the first innings.
