Head to Head
England have won five of their last six Test matches against New Zealand. In the first Test of this series, England won by eight wickets.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand were brought crashing down to earth in the opening Test of the series. The hosts were confident going into the game after a 3-0 whitewash of India away from home, but back in home conditions, they struggled.
Batting first, the Black Caps put up a decent total of 348 with Kane Williamson tops coring with 93 runs. Only one other batsman scored 50+ runs with Glenn Phillips ending 58*.
England then cruised past that New Zealand total, reaching 499 as the home bowlers struggled after taking three early wickets. New Zealand’s second innings didn’t go according to plan either until a middle order revival helped them to 254 all out. Williamson again scored runs with 61 while Daryl Mitchell managed 84.
With just 103 runs required to win, England won easily with eight wickets still standing.
New Zealand Injuries & Team News
New Zealand could opt for an unchanged side despite defeat in the first Test.
England Form
England will be very pleased with their victory in the first Test by eight wickets. Bowling first, they dismissed New Zealand for 248 runs with Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir taking four wickets each.
Harry Brook then led England to a total of 499 with a superb 171 runs while Ollie Pope added 77 and Ben Stokes 80.
Carse was again among the wickets, taking 6-42 with New Zealand all out for 254. Jacob Bethell ended the run chase on 50* off 37 balls as England scored the 104 required to win in under 13 overs.
England Injuries & Team News
Considering how well the bowlers went in the first Test, I foresee an unchanged lineup for England.
Verdict
I am backing the hosts to bounce back with a victory in the 2nd Test and Kane Williamson to continue his superb form. Harry Brook is tipped to top score for England.
