  • New Zealand have won their last 3 Test matches.

  • England have lost their last 2 Test matches.
  • England’s Joe Root scored 261 runs in the 1st Test against Pakistan.

Head to Head

New Zealand won their last Test match against England but lost the four prior to that.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand come into this home series fresh off a stunning 3-0 whitewash of India in India. It was a series win against all odds, not many gave the Black Caps a chance at even claiming a single win.

However, while New Zealand Test cricket has been average for the last 12 months, that should give this group of players a huge boost heading into their home summer.

England, however, are no easy opponents and with conditions not that different from what the visitors experience back home, this should be a cracking series.

New Zealand Injuries & News

Kane Williamson returns to the squad and should play in the first Test. Tom Latham is captain while the likes of Tim Southee will be key in keeping the attacking England batsmen quiet.

England Form

England’s Test form has suffered a bit of a dip in recent times, but it hasn’t been terrible. They lost their last series 2-1 in Pakistan after winning the first Test.

Prior to that, England defeated Sri Lanka and the West Indies on home soil, although they did lose the final Test against Sri Lanka.

Brendon McCullum will hope his side can find the consistency they had when he first came into the job. The England head coach will know the conditions in New Zealand better than most having captained the Black Caps not so long ago.

England Injuries & News

Ben Stokes returns from injury to captain England. Joe Root will again be relied on to help steer the younger batsmen to big scores. On the bowing front, England look a bit this with Chris Woakes to spearhead that department.

Verdict

New Zealand are backed to win with Will Young tipped to top score in the first innings. For England, Joe Root is backed in the same market.
