England return to Test cricket for the first time since March this year and will be desperate to regain some form. The now popular ‘Bazball’ approach has fallen a bit flat after a blistering start to Brendon McCullum’s reign as coach.

After losing the Ashes to Australia, England toured India in March. It was the ultimate test on how their approach would work in tough conditions against a world class side. After winning the opening Test, England went on to lose the next four and series 4-1.

On home soil England should be more comfortable, but they will need to regain some confidence.

James Anderson will play his last Test match for his country in this opening game of the series. Ben Stokes returns as captain while there are new faces in Shoaib Bashir, Jamie Smith and Dillon Pennington.

West Indies Form

The West Indies have not played any Test cricket since their January tour of Australia this year. They shocked the world in that series, drawing it 1-1.

After being hammered in the first Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets, the Windies bounced back against tall the odds in Brisbane to seal an eight-run win in a thrilling game.

While the Windies have struggled in the longest format of the game for some time, that victory will give them plenty of confidence ahead of this series in England.

West Indies Injuries & Team News

Kraigg Brathwaite will have to lead as captain and with the bat alongside a pretty good bowling lineup that includes Jayden Seale, Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph.
