This Test match rivalry stretches back to the last days of Don Bradman’s career. The first Test meeting saw Australia win by an innings and 226 runs, with India being bowled out for 58 and 98 after Australia posted 382/8 declared, with Bradman scoring 185 runs. India had to wait nine Tests until 1959 for their first Test win, which was by 119 runs in Kanpur.

Australia have won four series by a 4-0 margin, while India have only one 4-0 once, in 2013. Australia won 18 of the first 27 Tests between the two nations, with six matches ending in a draw and India winning just three of those Tests.

India started to dominate Australia from the end of the 1990s and, aside from a 4-0 loss in Australia in 2011/12, India have had the upper hand over Australia.
