Head to Head
The Hobart Hurricanes have won three of their last four games against the Sydney Thunder. Their last meeting took place in January 2024, a match the Hurricanes won by seven wickets.
Sydney Thunder Form
Sydney Thunder are having a fine season with four wins from their six matches thus far. They are second on the table, level on points with their opponents, who are third.
With a chance to go top of the table, the Thunder lost their last match in Brisbane against the Heat. Batting first, the Sydney outfit scored 173 in 20 overs. David Warner top scored with a well-played 50 runs.
Despite taking three early wickets, the Thunder bowlers couldn’t maintain the pressure on the Brisbane Heat. Lockie Ferguson took 2-21 in four overs, but the Heat won the game with seven balls to spare.
Sydney Thunder Injuries & Team News
The Thunder, like their opponents, are enjoying a very good season. I don’t see any drastic changes despite losing their last game.
Hobart Hurricanes Form
The Hobart Hurricanes are third on the table and level on points with the Thunder. They have played a game less, with four wins from five games.
Last time out the Hurricanes impressively chased 186 to beat the Adelaide Strikers in Hobart. The bowlers struggled to keep the rate down on a good batting wicket but Rile Meredith’s 1-26 in four kept the score under 200.
A blistering start by Mitchell Owen (37) and Matthew Wade (27) put the Hurricanes in a strong position. They were pulled back in the middle overs by some strong bowling, but Tim David’s 62 off 28 balls saw them cruise to a five-wicket win.
Hobart Hurricanes Injuries & Team News
The Hurricanes have been impressive this season. They may rotate their side but there shouldn’t be more than a couple of changes at most.
Verdict
I am backing the Sydney Thunder to win at home with David Warner to continue his superb form with the bat.
For the Hurricanes, Tim David has value after an impressive 62* in his last innings.
